Parallels and Office 2007
Managed to install Office 2007 on XP under Parallels (PLs) today and it’s working very well - I seem to get better performance on the MB Pro under PLs than I do on my machine in the office running XP native! Our Mistral ADSL seems to have been upgraded to 8meg without anyone telling us so downloading the Office 2007 ISO took about 15 minutes! After that attaching to the XP VM was easy and...
Damn Parallels is good under Mac OSX
I have to say I’m impressed with the latest Parallels build. I’m managing to run Windows XP and Mac OSX side by side in Coherence mode and the experience is pretty seamless. I’m even running a WindowBlinds skin under Parallels and it’s fine. Roll on Direct3d support! What’s most impressive is battery life and the overall feel of the machine. Running Vista under boot...

In .NET in doesn't matter what you develop in -...
Like Java, Microsoft .NET compiles source code into a common language run-time (referred to as the CLR) which is then exectuted. Unlike Java .NET developers have a choice of what language they develop in since they all get compiled into the same CLR. Visual Basic or C#, Delphi or Perl. Now there are some significant differences between HOW you code in VB or C# and there are some shortcuts that...
Vista runs hot on Macbook pro, audio drivers suck...
I’ve been running Vista RTM under bootcamp and it has been great getting all the benefits of Vista (speed and improved GUI) but my Macbook does run HOT. I have to run RMClock to undervolt and clock the CPU just to keep it cool. I’m also running this under battery power to throttle the CPU to about 400 mhz for each core. Surprisingly vista is still perfectly usable! Another issue seems...
Running MacOSX and Windows together!
I’ve been playing with Parallels recently on my Macbook Pro. If you’ve used VMWare then it’s essentially the same thing (a virtualisation tool that lets you run another OS within a Window in your current OS as if it’s a complete and seperate computer) but it’s available on Mac OSX and has been since the Intel Macs appared (VMWare on the other hand has been long...
Bought a Macbook Pro and installing Vista
Picked up a new Macbook Pro today and have managed to get Vista on successfully with most things working - better progress than on my SZ1! I’m putting together a better posting with my findings on Vista and specifically getting Bluetooth and other stuff working properly…..watch this space.
Vista on a Mac?
I picked up a Macbook Pro last weekend, 15 inch model with Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33ghz, 160 gig drive and 2 gigs of Ram. I really wanted to run Vista on a fast machine and this gives me the best of both worlds. I’ve managed to setup Bootcamp now and Vista RTM on a 100 gig partition. It took some fiddling to sort out the drivers but it does work and I’ve got most of it working well now....
